fb TIMELINE: STORYTELLING FOR BRANDS HAS (FINALLY) ARRIVED!

by Kurt on October 1, 2011

Last week, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, announced a new way facebook profiles will look in the (near) future.

Awesome! Awesome for the average user (1), but more importantly: awesome for brands. TIMELINE, as this is being called, will allow a brand to tell its entire (life-) story in a single page!

Now, think about that … for a marketer, for the first time, you’ll be able to tell the full brand history since launch in a simple, coherent, user-friendly and dynamic way. All launches, all packaging changes, logo changes, promotions, pieces of communication -the works! On top of that, TIMELINE will make brand pages a lot more visual than what they are today. And since a picture tells 1000 words, this will make the brand engagement, the brand experience a lot more interesting and fun.

Beauty and design, combined with the power you’ll be able to put in storytelling, will make your brand story even more “palatable” than usual. And that in turn should result in a longer interaction time between brand and consumer. [Same principle applies to company fb pages by the way. Now you will be able to tell the whole story, since foundation of the company!]

Fact: There are hundreds of brands with fb pages of >1 million likes. [check out “5 surprisingly successful brands on facebook“, by MASHABLE]

Find out more about TIMELINE from Zuckerberg himself:

TIMELINE will significantly impact how we as marketers use facebook. And more importantly, how we MEASURE the impact of fb. Since the “old” page clicks will be down the drain, new metrics will need to be developed to signify the interaction with brand touchpoints on the TIMELINE. That’ll take us to a whole new level of consumer insights -hopefully.

One thing: the jury is still out there on the question whether fb timeline win from Google+

What do you think about TIMELINE?
